Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich meet at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday in the 75th German Cup Final. Leipzig are contesting their first DFB-Pokal final and are tipped to take FC Bayern all the way to extra time. A draw after 90 minutes is paying 4.00 with a 1-1 draw on offer at 8.00 in the correct score market.

RB Leipzig Form & Team News

Leipzig had a successful Bundesliga season as they finished third behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The 2-1 defeat at Werder Bremen on Saturday meant little with Bruma missing a penalty and manager Ralf Rangnick choosing a much changed side.

Jean-Kévin Augustin, Matheus Cunha, Bruma, Nordi Mukiele, Marcelo Saracchi and Stefan Ilsanker all started in Bremen. Leipzig’s key players such as Péter Gulácsi, Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg, Willi Orban, Ibrahima Konaté, Marcel Sabitzer and Timo Werner didn’t feature with Yussuf Poulsen and Emil Forsberg coming off the bench.

I expect all those players to start in Leipzig’s first German Cup final. Leipzig are undefeated in 18 of their last 19 matches in all competitions and will be hard to beat here after taking on Bayern Munich two weeks ago.

That match finished 0-0 at home but Rangnick and his players would have learned a lot about the Bundesliga champions. The vastly experienced manager could have a few tricks up his sleeve against a relative newcomer in Niko Kovac.

Leipzig are paying 5.00 to spring an upset and 4.00 to claim a draw and force extra time. I think this match could go down to the wire and am tipping a draw due to Leipzig having had the best defence in the Bundesliga and the tactical ability to frustrate the Bavarians.

FC Bayern Munich Form & Team News

Bayern Munich won their seventh successive Bundesliga title on Saturday after a 5-1 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Kingsley Coman scored in the 4th minute and despite giving up a 50th minute equaliser, further goals to David Alaba, Renato Sanches, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben secured a convincing victory.

Niko Kovac’s side overhauled a nine point deficit behind Borussia Dortmund to get it done. Striker Robert Lewandowski scored 22 goals with consistent contributions throughout the team including attackers Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller.

FC Bayern haven’t lost since going out of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Liverpool in March. They were overwhelming favourites to win the German Cup Final last season where they were upset by Eintracht Frankfurt, can they make this one count?

Sven Ulreich should replace the injured Manuel Neuer in goal once again and Leon Goretzka is likely to keep his midfield spot ahead of the injured Javi Martínez and Corentin Tolisso. Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben came off the bench against Eintracht but Kovac is unlikely to make any changes here.

Bayern Munich are paying 1.53 to win their 19th German Cup that many will be happy to take on. Robert Lewandowski has scored 38 goals for the Bavarians in all competitions this season and is paying 3.50 in the first goalscorer market.

Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Head to Head

Bayern Munich have won four and lost once against Leipzig with two draws. In the Bundesliga this season, FC Bayern beat Leipzig 1-0 in their home match with Franck Ribéry scoring the winner before a 0-0 draw in Leipzig.

Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Match Up

Leipzig have a quality side and arguably the best manager in the Bundesliga. Leipzig have the best defence in the Bundesliga with 29 goals conceded in 34 matches and two lethal strikers in Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen.

Bayern Munich are favourites to win every match against German opposition but found out last year it can count for little. They have a superior squad but might find it tough against Leipzig’s defensive prowess.

Leipzig vs Bayern Munich Key Statistics

Leipzig are undefeated in 18 of their last 19 matches (all competitions).
Leipzig had the best defence in the Bundesliga this season 29 goals conceded.
Bayern Munich are undefeated in their last 11 matches (all competitions).
Bayern Munich have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 matches against Leipzig (all competitions).

Leipzig should not be underestimated here and have the ability to cause an upset. I am tipping the German Cup final to go to extra time following a draw after 90 minutes.
