Report: Player sought after by Arsenal now being sought after by Chelsea

A player reportedly sought after by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and seemingly on course for a Gunners summer move is now being sought after by Chelsea, according to Voetbal International.

Spanish outlet La Razon previously claimed that Arsenal was willing to make a €26.5million (around £24million) bid for highly-rated Feyenoord prodigy Orkun Kokcu.

The Gunners face a tricky summer as Arteta seeks to stamp his mark on the team and bolster their ranks, but with the prospect of no European football and the money it brings – not to mention the difficulties posed by the suspension of football brought about by global health crisis.

Nonetheless, Arsenal is believed to be looking at a player who has already made 47 appearances for Feyenoord’s senior side despite his 19 years of age.

Kokcu has made 35 appearances for the Rotterdam side this season alone, scoring three goals and claiming six assists, and is turning plenty of heads in the Eredivisie and beyond.

Turkish outlet Skor recently claimed that Arsenal will directly battle Sevilla for the signing of Kokcu in the summer, while the prior report from La Razon believed that the £24million bid Arsenal were planning would be too much for the Spaniards to match.

However, Voetbal International has now claimed that Chelsea is also keen as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his midfield during the summer transfer window.
